Maycember: The Other Most Wonderful (and Overwhelming) Time of the Year

If December had a twin — minus the twinkling lights but with just as much chaos — it would be May.

“Maycember,” as coined by the Holderness Family and now widely shared by exhausted parents everywhere, is that whirlwind of end-of-year school activities, recitals, field trips, teacher appreciation days, early dismissals, and summer planning — all packed into one wild stretch of spring.

As a mom and a leader, I feel it deeply.

In my house, May often carries the joyful leftovers of April birthdays, Mother’s Day celebrations, track meets, dance recitals, field days, theme days, school programs, and all the paperwork that comes with planning for summer. And while I’m beyond grateful for all of it, I’ll be honest — May requires more energy than almost any other month of the year.

And I know I’m not alone.

Many of the women I know — and the women who make up EmpowHer Collective — are navigating this same beautiful chaos. They’re leading teams, running businesses, parenting, caregiving, coordinating, planning, showing up, holding space… and somehow still signing permission slips at 7:58 a.m.

So here’s the gentle reminder I’ve needed lately, and maybe you do too:
Progress over perfection.
You don’t need to do it all flawlessly to be doing it well.
You deserve space to breathe — and support from those who get it.

At EmpowHer, our mission is to help women build confidence, leadership, and connection — even (and especially) when life feels full.

Maycember is real. But so is the strength, creativity, and resilience you’re bringing to every task, every moment, every role.

So give yourself grace. Say no when you need to. Celebrate what’s going right. And know that in this season of noise, your presence — not your perfection — is what matters most.
